Louisville Slugger UPM 45 Blue Flame Pitching Machine

Named the official Pony Baseball and Softball League pitching machine, the GMaster Louisville Slugger UPM 45 Blue Flame Pitching Machine helps batters and coaches enjoy a more successful batting practice or coach-pitch game. The GMaster Louisville Slugger UPM 45 Blue Flame Pitching Machine is sturdy, portable and requires no electricity, which makes it great for practices and games, home or away. Plus it saves the coach's arm. Because the lever action flicks baseballs with consistent speed and location, it's often used as an alternative in coach-pitch leagues to help overcome the fear factor of live pitching. Young hitters will know where and when the ball will be pitched. For all ages, the Louisville Slugger Blue Flame Pitching Machine allows hitters to work on specific locations and sharpen muscle memory without turning the coach's arm to jelly.

    The best mechanical pitching machine

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 10.14.2009

This is a great machine for baseball or softball either one. Being a coach of two fast-pitch girls teams I would have to say it has helped us tremendously. If you use real softballs or baseballs you may control the pitch inside outside high in the zone or low, it is easy to do once you learn how. It all has to do with placing the ball on the arm in either a two seam or four seam for high or low in the zone, or seam tilted to the inside for an outside pitch or outside for an inside pitch, the guide is a little off on the speed, we found it to be actually a little faster than what it states (it threw a 12 inch thunder heat fast-pitch ball 57 mph from a 40 foot rubber, that was the average with 36 balls) although i might just have a tighter spring (they do tend to vary in tension, but just feel it out), all in all it is great if you take the time to learn how to use it properly.

    Improve batting and self confidence!!!!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 06.27.2013

My son was a poor hitter at best. With the aid of this pitching machine, my son is now a decent hitter and has also gained self confidence. This is the best $ I have spent in a long time! The machine is lightweight and adjustable (speed and height). It is a great way to get the kids outside to play. I highly recommend this product.

    Pitching machine that works great!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 02.02.2015

This pitching machine really works and saves the coaches arm. Does not require electricity. Is very mobile. Makes practice easier and focuses more on batting skills. This machine can also be used for practicing catching...fly balls and grounders.

Product is awesome Walmarts shipping is NOT!!!!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 09.16.2013

It's not Louisville's fault that Walmart still doesn't comprehend how to ship anything without breaking it. Luckily for us it was not a vital piece to the operation that was broke, however it still is disappointing spending $180 to get something that isn't perfect. I have not recieved one single thing yet doing site to store that was not broke in some way! Any way enough about Walmarts short comings, the product is great most little leagues are using these for machine pitch. We bought it so the team could get used to hitting off it before games started, it can also throw softballs so it can perform double duty, very easy to adjust pitch height and speed. Pitch speeds seem to be able to be adjusted from 30-45 mph, very simple pull pin adjustment takes seconds to adjust speed. So it can be used with varying levels of players skill.

    Awesome Pitching Machine!!!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 04.27.2013

I struggled trying to throw my 7 year old son consistent strikes while practicing at home.

I pitched up thought high school so I can throw a fast strike but practicing at home with plastic practice balls is very difficult. I can't use regular balls as we'd lose them in the woods or break a windows.

The UPM 45 will throw a hard baseball, soft t-ball, plastic practice ball, tennis ball or any other type of ball very consistently.

I wish I knew about these last year when my son started playing ball. The teams were all coach pitch last year but have since changed to machine pitch using the UPM 45.

I even picked up a 12'x14'x70' batting cage net just so we can use the UPM 45 with real baseballs in the yard.

I wish they had these when I was a kid.

    Excellent Product

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 05.29.2009

This product is great. We have used it for three years now. I absolutely love it. My sons little league teams actually switched over to this machine this year. It is the most accurate machine we have used. Our players hit better off this machine than all the others we've used. It is very useful, and I highly recommend it.

This has been a great purchase.

The product arrived quickly and on the expected arrival date. It was easy to assemble and the directions to use were fairly easy to understand. So far, it has been consistent with delivering accurate pitches to multiple players and has been a beneficial purchase, as it has been used at least 2-3 days per week for my son's entire youth baseball team to practice with.

Great pitching machine for the price.

    4 out of 5, reviewed on 05.04.2013

I would give this item 4.5 stars, but the option was not there. Our softball playing daughters use it for batting practice, catching pop flys and practice for the catcher and shortstop, as the machine shoots grounders, level pitches and fly balls. Was going to buy this item, then happened to catch it on sale and free shipping to my home, so it was a great buy. Hoping it lasts us years, dont know how long the springs will last, we do use it a lot.

    Great Machine!!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 07.01.2013

Purchased this pitching machine for my three kids. My 9 year old actually used this machine for his baseball season - it was machine pitch. My 7 year old is becoming a good little batter. Machine goes slow enough for him to not get frustrated. My 12 year old daughter is playing fast pitch softball and this machine works great for her too. No batteries or power required. Easy set up but takes a few minutes to switch settings between kids. I love the fact that it does not throw strikes every time. Actual pitchers don't either. Makes the kids have to learn which pitches to swing at.

    Great Machine

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 11.21.2013

I coached my son's little league team for 4 seasons, and the entire division used these machines(age 6-8 division was machine pitch). It takes a little time to set up so that the balls are accurate (especially on a mound), but once you get it set in the right spot, it's good to go for an entire game, with only an occasional left or right adjustment on the back leg. Pitching height adjustments during games/practices are very easy thanks to a screw on the pitching arm that can be screwed in or out to move the pitches up or down as needed. Be sure you don't "yank" on the arm when you pitch, as this will pull the spikes out of the ground and you will have to constantly realign the machine. A simple two finger pull is all that you need to release the ball. Overall, this is a great machine for the price, I would recommend it.

    Wouldn't recommend for softball

    3 out of 5, reviewed on 04.08.2010

I bought this to help with softball batting practice. I wanted something that had a lot of options for speed/height/etc, without the need for electricity. While it has options and is easy to figure out, it isn't made for softball. The pitching is too similar to baseball pitching - it drops rathers than rises like softball pitching. It confuses the girls and even our best batters can't hit off this. It is also time-consuming to reload between pitches. You have to hold it down, pull the arm back, push the handle forward, reload the ball... there are just a lot of steps and it slows practice down. It is just easier to pitch myself - so we don't use it much anymore.

My son's baseball league uses this machine. The pitches are not consistent as advertised, many end up in the dirt. The ball is catapulted at the batter at a good clip. The batter has to guess when the ball will be projected at them -- it is not a good substitute for live pitching where a batter can learn to follow a pitcher's movement and pick the ball up in their hand.

    Great Pitching Machine!

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 05.28.2011

I have had it for 2 years and use it for softball and baseball with both of my kids playing ball. Not only is it great that you don't need electricity, but it is around 20 lbs. and easy to setup and move. Both of my kids have drastically improved their hitting by practicing off this machine. It has a wide variety of setting to adjust the pitches higher, lower, faster and slower. It is very similar to an actual pitcher in that has variances in pitches so they move around a little in the zone and sometimes out of the strike zone a bit. That way the kids learn that every pitch isn't good and learn what to swing at and what to let go by. Highly recommend for both baseball & softball!!!

    Worth Every Cent

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 05.24.2009

I have used one of these coaching 8U, 10U, up to 14 years old in LL & Slow pitch for adults. It is extremely accurate and is a great machine as it is the only one simulating arm action. I use it for batting practice, ground ball drills, and fly ball drills. It gives every athlete an equal chance at a quality attempt and is not dependent on a coach hitting consistent balls to players. I would not want to start a season without one.

    Great Product

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 06.13.2013

I had not seen one of these devices prior to purchasing. It was word of mouth only. I also watched You Tube videos on product.
I received product via standard shipping. The product arrived in excellent condition.
I was able to assemble product very easily. The instructions were very simple and clear.
I had the product ready to use in approximately 15 minutes!
It took approximately 5 minutes or so to fine tune/adjust machine for "strike zone".
The pitches were virtually perfect with a bucket of baseballs (some new and previously used).
My son was able to hit baseballs with accurate pitching.
A few days later I brought the pitching machine to Little League pre-game batting practice.
The team loved it! No electricity needed. Very simple, compact and mobile.
A great purchase as it turned out!

Questions and Asnwer for UPM 45 Blue Flame Pitching Machine

  • superdave10
How quickly can you reload the machine? How many estimated pitches can you throw to a batter in a 10
    Asked on 08.04.2013

Can you set this back at 40 feet and expect it to throw strikes with softballs and wiffleballs?

    • OhioSoftballMom

Softballs yes, not sure about wiffleballs, sorry

    • JamieSD

I have a bucket of ball near by and I'm reloading in 15 seconds.

    • Speedson

Your can leisurely load and pitch 3 balls a minute. Yes, it works great from 40 feet. I have used hard balls, softer tee balls, and baseball sized whiffle balls from that distance. You need to make small, easy adjustments in the settings to accomodate different types of balls.

    • homerunmonkey

It literally takes maybe 5 seconds to reload, if you have a bucket of balls you can wear a young hitter out in less than 10 minutes. It is a very simple throwing arm you simply pull it back lock it under the release mechanism that is attached to the hand lever, load the ball on the throwing arm step on the foot lever and pull the hand lever to throw the next pitch. If your going as fast as you can reload the machine in 10 minutes you can achive at least 50-75 pitches.
