sending this back as it was not what I expected

Two problems with this (1) what was pictured and one was led to assume was that both the trimmer head and brush cutter head would come on their own bar and all you would need to do would be to change bars.

    (2) the trimmer head comes with the individual 12 - 16" string rather than the spool. This creates quite a problem when using the trimmer as you seem to spend more time changing the line than actually using the trimmer to cut what ever needs to be cut. This is why the product is going straight back to wal-mart.

    So far so good

This ,so far, is the best trimmer I've ever had-and I have had a few. The string for weed eating is easy to load and does a fine job. The brush cutter is somewhat complicated to assemble but once it's together it works just fine.

I put this review together somewhat different than I normally write reviews. I am not an expert, these thoughts and expressions are my own.

    Bought: Feb 27, 2013.
    Assembled/First Use: Feb 28, 2013
    Photos: Included (2 total)
    Product Registration: Online
    User Manual: Included
    Quick Start Guide: Included
Weed Blade: Included (with the appropriate guard and mounting screws).
    Mix Oil: Included

Manual: The manual is complete, easy to read and understand. Spanish version is toward the back of the book. Included is a separate quick start guide w/starting instructions. Starting instructions are also included on the engine assembly for easy reference.

Assembly: Relatively simple; tools (Allen wrench is included) which are required for initial trimming; the trimmer head does come with string which is pre-installed. Simply, slide the attachment into the end of the shaft until the button snaps into place, then hand tighten the wing nut (red).

Handlebar: Included (with the appropriate mounting hardware [small disc], mounting screws and Allen wrench). Be aware of what screws you use to mount the handlebar; start slow and the machine screws will take--hand tighten at first, and snug it up with the Allen wrench. The handle bar is somewhat bulky and will take some getting used to.

String: .115: includes 5 pieces (one pre-installed, and four spare pieces). Most average trimmers rate .80 string. Look toward the back of the [English] instructions to see how to replace the string. The manual recommendation is to keep with .115; I may try some spare .80 I have tucked away and see how it performs.

Overall, I trimmed a 1/2 acre home (with all the flowerbeds, stone boundaries, plants/shrubbery) in half the time it took me with my old trimmer. Now, this unit is somewhat heavier than a 'normal' trimmer; the shoulder harness (included) is fully adjustable and allows for decent support. The cut size is 17 inches which is a decent range and the horsepower of 25 cc. (powerful is an understatement here) is probably more than the average homeowner would require.

I hope this review helps you; I am not a fan of any one particular company or manufacturer's product line. I am, however, a fan of quality craftsmanship.

    Long learning curve

The instruction manual describes one way to start it. There's an insert sheet that lists different steps. And some aren't feasible (it says set the choke half way, which cannot be done). So it's a pain to start and hard to keep running - it likes to die when you let off the throttle. But I figure I'll get used to all that in time. And I'm building up muscles in my cranking arm.

    the blade cut size
    Asked on 04.15.2013

I need to know what size brush or bush will the blade cut.

    • hotguys

Blade cuts about 8" and will cut any soft growing stuff about 1/2 inch. But don't try to cut anything hard (dead sticks and brush) as it will kick back on you.

Also, is this compatible with the Troybilt attachments? I looked in the store the other day and it appears that it is compatible.

Not that I know of-the book doesn't say anything about that. I know because I have read the entire book. I don't know about attachments for this unit.
