    Great for Recreation Use

I have purchased multiple packs of these baseballs over the past year and have had no issues whatsoever. In the spring, summer and fall seasons, I usually get together with friends for some catch and batting practice. To date, these baseballs have performed to meet expectations - none have lost shape nor have I had any issues with seams or the leather. For what I need them for, these work perfectly.

I was looking for Little League baseballs to put in Christmas boxes for Panama - I found these on the Walmart site. They are a great value - a great baseball for a reasonable price!

They are round, leather and they autograph well. They hold bold blue ink well, and all my autographs are perfectly preserved.

    Bargain for a reason....

I bought these for practicing hitting baseballs, the price was decent.. about the price that they offer for used baseballs at Play it again Sports but since these are new I figured I'd rather get these... I took them out for practice and after not even a few times hitting them, one of the baseballs was busted at the seam.... what a disappointment. I returned them and will be going to Play it again Sports for the used baseballs since I know they will withstand the force unlike these.

My son plays little league and winter baseball so we use these baseballs a lot, year round. These balls are good practice balls, I've used them before and have always liked them. They are durable and can take a lot of abuse.

I haven't used them yet, since it's winter here, but they look as if they're great balls. It's also official NBA Rawlings balls.

This is the perfect practice ball out there. I have 4 buckets of these balls to use during my son's team practices. And for under $2.00 each per ball, you can't go wrong. I would definitely recommend these to any Coach or manager.

I bought the balls to pitch to my T-baller. I'm completely satisfied with them. I'm thinking that the bat speed of a high schooler---the balls would not hold up.

    What does split leather mean?
    Asked on 06.07.2010

Is split leather cover mean it's not real leather or some sort of real and synthetic leather composite.

    • TennisJones

"Split Leather" baseballs are great baseballs and adding a little mud helps the feel of the ball, on the ball it does say just, "Leather." I do know synthetic ball cannot be "mudded up" and generally are terrible baseballs. I don't think the cover of the ball is made of two types of materials.

    • juggernaut1000

The hide is usually "split" which means that the thickness is sliced into two pieces, making nearly two sheets of leather.

    • Redbirdalso

Split Leather is thinner and not as durable as top quality leather. If you were actually using the ball in the game, the leather cover would give out faster, and the ball will damage more easily than a top grain leather cover. Often, the core in split leather baseballs is a little bigger to make up for the thinner baseball so it stays regulation for its finished size. On a Rawlings ball, it will have an L in the code, like CROLB or ROLB, if it is sythetic, it will have an S instead of the L.

    • RWLNGSGURU

Split leather means it is all leather but the cow hide has been "split" into two. Meaning the thickness is not as heavy as a Full Grain leather.

  • CELJR
What is the difference between a Rawlings CROLB and a ROLB baseball?
    Asked on 12.06.2010

    • RWLNGSGURU

The covering on the ball. ROLB is leather where the CROLB is split leather.

    • Redbirdalso

Rawlings makes different quality balls, depending on the client. The code, CROLB, means that they are recreational balls that have the same size and weight as the balls used in Major League games, but the leather (the L) as far as I can tell, is thinner. I'm not sure if the leather on the ROLB's are split,, they are the practice balls for the major league. If you see a +1 or 2, after a ROLB, that means that the practice ball is a second,,,it is blemished in some way. The CROLB are fine for autographs, but for Hall of Famers you might want to shell out the $14 and get the official ball. The ROLB's are a step up from the CROLB, are not seconds, and are a slightly nicer ball but double the price of the CROLB. Still cheaper than the official game balls, and available at Walmart.com ship to store. They don't carry them in the store.
