Snapper Straight Shaft Gas Trimmer/Brush Cutter, R

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 01.01.0001

I purchased this gas trimmer, after purchasing several other gas trimmers. This is by far, the best trimmer out of all of them. I have trouble with my shoulders, so I was looking for a trimmer that started easy. I also was looking for a trimmer that I could change cutting heads easily. I used this trimmer several times now & switched heads & this is by far the best trimmer I have bought. It is the easiest trimmer to start & switch heads. Thank you Snapper Gas Trimmers.

Starts first pull, lots of power, awesome trimmer

    5 out of 5, reviewed on 01.01.0001

I love this trimmer. I've used it three times now on a 3/4 acre yard, trimming around the house, trees, water pump, a/c unit, property lines, wood lines, etc. It has started on the first pull every time. I use premixed premium 100% gas + 50:1 oil also available at walmart or auto parts stores. This is much more reliable than 10% ethanol, 87 octane you've probably been using (and everyone adds too much oil!). Anyways, absolutely no problem with the startup and power in this trimmer. Assembly was easy with all parts and tools provided. It came with a harness but I only used it once and didn't really need it.

The huge j-hook handlebar is great, and balanced very well. It's much more ergonomic than the small standard plastic handlebar on 99% of other trimmers. The guard is enough to keep the little stuff off your legs, but you should definitely wear eye protection because this thing slings some weeds, rocks or whatever else you hit with it.

It cuts through most weeds easily at half throttle, but when you turn it up full throttle it'll cut through nearly anything less than 1/2 thick. Ive actually used it to clean 1 inch thick dirt that has accumulated on my driveway and around my water pump. It eats through it all. I was very impressed, especially coming from a curved shaft weedeater featherlight. It's a whole nother world.

The only thing I could find a fault with was the included brush blade. It's easy to install, but doesn't cut through much of anything straight out of the box. I'm going to sharpen it up and see how it performs and I'll update this.

I ordered it online, and it arrived earlier than the expected day. I am a small woman, 4ft 10 in, but strong, so I ordered this model to cut thicker weeds and bushes in my horse pasture. I have found that the string seems to cut better than the blade. The blade doesn't appear to be overly sharp. I am happy with my purchase, though I am still trying to figure out how to adjust the shoulder strap so I can hold this trimmer up without getting too tired.

    Great all purpose Trimmer

Starts easily. Weight balance is good. It doesn't have a fast response throttle. It takes a second or two to get up to speed. The speed stays continuous once it's reached. Great purchase.

    good trimmer for the price

Trimmer worked well with both the line and blade. I used the blade on briers and it worked well but it worked better when I sharpened the blade. I only had to put line on it once and it seemed easy but I won't really know till I do it a couple of times.

Great machine...seen some bad reviews about not working properly after a couple of uses. My guess was they didn't mix the oil to gas ratio correctly (VERY IMPORTANT). This unit works pretty good, no complaints from this guy.

Easy to assemble. Easy to start. Takes out tall Johnson Grass very well. Easy to fix when line breaks off in the head. Heavy but with the use of the shoulder strap, it is balanced well and didn't cause my 72 year old back to ache. Tried to register on line and no luck at all there. No calculating to obtain 50:1 ratio. Just reuse the oil bottle that came with the machine for mixing the next batch.

    Ease of Installing new line
    Asked on 06.03.2014

I have arthritis in my hands. How hard is it to install new line?

    • Trimmerman

The trimmer line appears to be a double line, bu it is a single strand of line. You take a single strand of .095 line & double it over & it snaps in a small slot or grove in the center of the spool. you should hear or feel it snap into place. You then wrap the line in the same direction for booth lines, one line in the upper spool & one in the lower spool. Once the spool is full, you can reassemble the rest of the head. Follow the instructions in the manual, but is is easy.

    • CommunityAnswer

A new line just snaps in. It is easy.

    • Snapper Product Expert

Replacing the line is pretty simple. The most difficult part, since you have arthritis would be to push in the tabs to remove the cover.

I'm handicapped & can't pull too any times- is it hard to start?
    Asked on 04.12.2014

    • bzzzzzzzz

Nope, mine starts first pull every time. I use premixed gasoline + 50:1 oil available in walmart and auto parts stores. It's about 5 dollars a can but if you use it regularly it definitely makes things easier by preventing overoiling and has stabilizers premixed so it doesnt go bad.

    • Trimmerman

This is the easiest trimmer that I have bought. I have problems with my shoulders & I can't pull too often. This trimmer starts very easy. Once it is primed, I have not had to pull more than 3 times, if that often to get it started. It has a priming bulb & a choke. With mine I prime it, set the choke & pull 2 times & it starts. It doesn't pull hard either. I have another trimmer that you have to pull & pull. By the time it starts, I'm too tired to trim. I love this Snapper, Red.

    • Harleymama97

No it's not!! usually starts the 2nd try

    would anyone recommend this trimmer?

    • Trimmerman

Yes! I purchased a Snapper Trimmer, that you can change from a trimmer head to a blade head. It's the best trimmer I have owned. IT starts easy & the heads change easy. I've gone through trimmers & this is the easiest starting trimmer I have owned. I love my Snapper!

    • OleScott

I would. I like the extra attachments that go w/it. Once it reaches top speed, it stays there through thick grass & weeds. It has a larger engine than most Trimmers. The price is reasonable also.
